This page is here to give you an idea of my current expected schedule for releases and what I’m working on currently. Because I work to fairly rapid production rates and because I do start projects which go nowhere, what’s on here is subject to change at more or less no notice.
Most Recent Releases
- Elementary: A scientist from Earth is sucked into a world with magic. An isekai.
- Mask of the Martinet: Tatsu Yamada 3.
- The Man Who Was Never There: A magic school-based fantasy with an interesting world behind it. It’s a working title; may change.
- Disruptive Elements: Elementary 2.
- The Business of War: Death’s Handmaiden 7.
- Gods and Monsters: Death’s Handmaiden 8.
Editing Pipeline
Writing Now
- As yet untitled fantasy/detective story which seems to be what’s next.
Doldrums
- The Journey.
- Unwritten.
On the Drawing Board
Production Purgatory
- The Last Emperor: The second Twilight Empress novel.
Note on categories:
- Just Released: should be obvious.
- Editing Pipeline: has a completed first draft and is awaiting my edits and then proofing. When I have a solid release date, I’ll post it. These books are going to happen.
- Writing Now: is what I am actively working on. These may go into Production Purgatory.
- Doldrums: Sometimes the wind just goes out of my sails and I can’t keep the enthusiasm going, or there’s a lack of faith in the way the plot is going. Books here are likely to be picked up and finished sooner than those in Purgatory.
- Production Purgatory: is like production hell, but not quite as bad. Shadows and Reality Hack both went here and made it out.
- On the Drawing Board: more than just vague ideas, less than something I’m able to write. These are the things which may well happen in the future. (In no specific order, btw.)
Motorcycles and hot women in leather are a natural combination.
trying to figure out how to use this thing. commo check.
Uh, wilco, 5 by 5, and other radio stuff?
We get you loude and clear. How copy? Over.
Any chance of more of your books being made into audiobooks?
There’s one available on Audible. Unfortunately, it costs quite a bit to produce audio books properly and they don’t sell that well. If I did it, I’d be losing money, so it’s unlikely to happen again.
I’m rereading the Fox series. Of the series I have finished Fox is the one character I would love to meet, followed by Nava. Anaka scares me and Ciri seemed to become a member of the “q” by the last book. Nice girl but man, do not get on her bad side.
With the possible exceptions of Fox and Tatsu, most of my MCs fall under ‘nice girl, but don’t get on her bad side.’ I mean, there’s a literal goddess in the list now!
I feel sorry for Michael. Do you really want a girlfriend who can erase you from existance like you were a misspelled word on a computer. 🙂 If you had continued the series I could have seen Ciri being torn between wanting to save people and butting her nose into other peoples problems. Think prime directive.
I think she was going to gradually retreat into the demon realm. Not immediately. There was to be fun with new sorcery students. But, eventually, she’d probably be more or less permanently based out of her castle.
When might we expect to see a new DH novel?
I don’t know. I currently don’t have a plot for it, just a general direction.
That being said, I doubt it’ll be too long given my track record with them. I wouldn’t expect it this year, however. (But it’s already September! Where does the time go?!)
I also hope for a continuation. Too many dangling subplots out there.
Re-reading Aneka’s saga and I’m in book 3. 74 more days until we find out if you’re right about a space ship crashing in London 😁
I think it’s unlikely. I think I’d be very worried if one did!
This is looking a little out of date. Don’t have your latest listed as published. What are you working on next?
Yikes! Yeah, I forgot to update this. I’ll fix it shortly.
Any news?
I should update that. I’m working on the next Tatsu book. It probably won’t be available until October, however.
October isn’t that far off. We celebrate that month here in Vegas. You no longer have to worry about coming out to your car and finding it melted.
Looking forward to another Tatsu book.
Never been to Vegas. But it’s supposed to be cooler than Pheonix, where the only month with non-fluid cars is December.
Don’t know what about a magic school that I love so much, but I do love them. Excited for the Man Who Was Never There. And are you finally writing a book with a male protagonist?
Hm… Have to wait and see.
Everything ok? It seems longer tha your usual 2 months between new releases. I’m starting to get the shakes.
Love you from the USA.
Cecil
I wouldn’t say everything was entirely perfect, but there should be a new book out in 2-3 weeks.
I hope the holidays find you well and feeling creative. That is unless you like dressing up like Scrooge and spouting Bah, Humbug to everyone on the streets.
Me, I have to clean the reindeer poop off the roof again. You think Santa would have trained them better. The old fart is starting to piss me off.
I have spent four days doing the minimum (real work) I could manage and visiting family. Currently supported by a plethora of modern chemical products, I’ll be great for about six weeks. So, tomorrow it’s back to finishing the next book and plotting out Elementary 2. Hope you all had a good Christmas/whatever too.
Have a happy New Year too. It should be nothing else if noe interesting here in the states in 2024. The wife and I are going to stay home and watch people do foolish things On TV down on the Las Vegas strip.
Where I was born people had the weird tradition of going into the lakes on New Years Day. The polar bear club. Does the UK have such weird traditions?
There are similar activities. There’s a club that swims in the Serpentine (a lake in London) on New Year’s Day, and I think there are others around. Back in the day, my family would go to the beach if it wasn’t raining, but that was when we lived 5 minutes from a beach, and it was the North Sea, so it was usually raining.
Any status on The Man Who Was Never There?
I see that you are working on the next Elementary book, and I have been hoping to see The Neverthere Man on sale, but the websites are still not showing it.
Funny you should ask…
I discovered your stories just a couple of months ago, and have rapidly become addicted. The one I finished most recently was The Iron Princess, which is one of my favourites. So I hope that at some point The Last Emperor will make it out of Production Purgatory. Apart from anything else, perhaps we will learn why the series is called Twilight Empress, which the first book didn’t appear to throw any light on.
That one has proven very difficult to continue, I’m afraid.
I was sorry to read about your father’s health issues, and I quite understand why you’ve had to slow down on your writing.
I’m gradually working my way through your back catalogue, and have enjoyed everything I’ve read. I’ve noticed that in pretty much every book you seem to leave scope for a follow-up book. The most recent one I’ve read was “The Zenari Inheritance”, which I thought was especially good. I was pleased to see that it was shown as being book 1 of a series, but then disappointed to discover that, not only is there no further book as yet, but you no longer seem to have any plans for writing one. Still, there’s another DH volume to look forward to in the not too distant future, and that series is great fun.
I planned a sequel. Had it all worked out, and then it never happened. Sorry. But, yes, there’s more DH to come.
anything new coming out?
Hopefully, but I don’t know when. I’m looking after my father at the moment and it’s taking up a lot of my time. Circumstances may change in the near future, at which point I’ll have an update.
Sorry to hear that. Will keep an eye out for any update.
