Not a Gods and Monsters Art Dump

As I said, I didn’t do a lot of art for Gods and Monsters owing to family circumstances. So, I’m not doing a proper art dump, but here are a couple of images I did do.

This was my idea for what everyone would wear on Grimalkin. That place is hot, so everyone except Carina is in briefer clothing. Carina thinks it’s just warm since it’s autumn.

And this is another image of Michiko, probably from a party. She’s taking her makeup ideas from Nava, it seems.

  1. Nice! Until now I hadn’t realised just how short Nava would be without her heels.

Nava looks like a fantasyVersion of a Catholic school girl.

  5. Having now finished and greatly enjoyed the story, a couple of spoiler-free comments. As Nava becomes increasingly powerful from book to book, it must become ever more difficult to come up with opponents who will be sufficiently powerful to really test her. Also her huge magical ability is liable to make one overlook just how very intelligent she is. Mitsuko is very bright, but Nava is even cleverer.

    • She can make bigger bangs, but there’s a degree of diminishing returns. Once you can incinerate someone with a thought, you can’t really make them more dead. Cari is about as powerful in that regard.

Generally, the trick to handling very powerful protagonists is to face them with something they can’t brute force, so expect more of that.

      • That makes good sense. I’d been thinking more about Nava’s near-invulnerability to an attack rather than her offensive capabilities, but of course if anything that even strengthens the validity of your last paragraph.

      • There are ways around that particular invulnerability too…

  6. Thanks for another great book!

Without leaving (hopefully) too much of a spoiler, it was great seeing Carina vindicated. That part of the story line was very well done.

  7. I like Nava’s boots.

  8. Hey Niall,

What are you currently working on? BTW, have you tried Stuart Grosse’s OP Lich series or his Reborn as the first boss series?

    • Kind of a sore point… I started something, got so far into it, and decided it was terrible. I am now working on a new story about an alchemist, The Alchemist’s Retort, which is something of a pun.

I think I’ve read the first of the OP Lich series. Or it’s on The List.
