Fallen

Fallen is now available (Amazon was fast today!). This is a lighthearted fantasy romp (intentionally, rather than what comes out of my brain normally). Assuming you don’t all hate it, it’s the start of a series. I haven’t specifically named it as a series, because I haven’t figured out what to call the series, but it’s meant to start a more-comedic-than-usual fantasy series.

In other news… I formatted Sign of the Dragon as a paperback and started the process of publishing it on Amazon. Since this is the first time, I’ve done this myself, I’ve ordered a proof copy to check out before I actually make it live. Assuming all goes well, it’ll be available in a couple of weeks. And, if it all goes well, I’ll start releasing other books as paperbacks. Death’s Handmaiden is likely to be the next one.

Now, you’ve already read these books, and I am not saying that you should buy the paperback. If you want a paperback copy, I’m obviously happy to take your money, but please don’t think you have to. The aim here is to open up another market. Apparently, ebook sales in the UK are down and paper books are back up. Maybe I can grab the attention of a few more of my fellow Brits this way. Going forward, I’ll likely try to issue the paperback and ebook versions at the same time. We’ll see how things go.

In other other news… The NaNoWriMo project isn’t going that great. I’ll probably do the 59k words just to say I did, but it’s not my best work. I think I’m a bit burned out on fantasy having done a lot of it recently. The idea’s not to bad; I may come back to it at some point. At this point, I think I’m going to do the next Tatsu Yamada book (the sequel to Sign of the Dragon) next, and you’ll likely see it at the end of January/start of February. Possibly in paperback as well as ebook form.

  1. I have read pretty much everything you’ve written. Right now I’d have to say that Death’s Handmaiden is my favorite of then all, which really surprised me as thus isn’t normally the genre I read. So thank you for that. I really hope that you will return to that series soon. Actually enjoyed Tatsu as well so very happy I’m a fan. I do miss Anika and Ceridwyn ( man I think I spelled that wrong). But I love the new content you are producing. Stay well and keep writing, please. Lol, I’m stuck indoors and you as well as some other authors are keeping me sane.

    • Actually, unless I’m remembering it wrong, that’s the right spelling.

      • “Aneka” is spelled “Aneka” though. 🙂

Enough with the nitpicking. I’m looking forward to the next Tatsu book, and like evilpi I would be happy to see what happens next in Ceri and Lily or Aneka and Ella’s worlds.

      • I did not even notice that. Just goes to show that we see what we expect to see.

Unfortunately, the Aneka and Thaumatology books aren’t likely to get any more sequels.
Next up is going to be Tatsu, then possibly a new one which is a bit Aneka-ish, and then the next Death’s Handmaiden. Though planning that far ahead is going to bite me in the ass without a doubt.

      • I’m going to love whatever you come up with. I always do 🙂

  2. This is very welcome as I wasn’t expecting a new book so soon. Look forward to reading it.

  3. Sorry to hear that your NaNoWriMo isn’t coming along as well as you hoped for. Happy tough to find a new book to read!

Good luck with the remaining bit for the 59K and congrats on yet another novel on your resume.

  4. G.R.E.A.T. I Bought the book this afternoon and read it in one go.

10 stars out of 5! I’d really like to see a sequel.

    • I think 10/5 is cheating, but okay. 🙂

Sequel planned, but not for a while. As I said, I’m suffering from fantasy burnout. I need to write some sci-fi, so I am.

  5. I loved it! Seriously, that was just super, super fun. Hopefully your muse, imagination, whatever you like to call it will bless with more books in this series. Thank you.

    • If it wasn’t obvious from the ending, I plan to write more. It always depends a bit on how it’s received, but I really wanted to write more. It was pretty fun to write. There’s a big, overarching plot there, sure. But when it comes down to it, this series is meant to be a fun romp full of OP characters doing OP things and bad guys you just want to see taken down a peg.
      Adventure awaits! and all that.

  6. Is the cover the event on the 10th of Mournfal?

  7. Okay. That was… something.

I cannot say I have laughed so hard in quite a while. I had to be careful I didn’t trigger an asthma attack and go to the hospital again. (Long story)

OP characters doing OP things can and has been done to death in so many genres that it is simply not funny. This was funny.

    WELL DONE, sir.

By the way, I can’t wait for the sequel to see what happens when someone tries to impersonate a certain goddess of magic and mischief. (We all know it will happen sometime, don’t we?)

Keep writing. We will keep reading!

    • The sequel will happen, but not immediately. This is partially because (as mentioned) I have really burned out my fantasy circuits. I need to write some sci-fi! So I am.
Now I have another reason: I do not want to kill any of my readers!!

I’m really glad you liked it. I’ve tried to do more comedic stuff before (Betsy Bristol: Space Adventurer… never could get it to work) and I’m just not sure about deliberately writing funny. At least someone appreciated it.

  8. Read through Fallen yesterday and enjoyed it quite a bit (I’ll probably re-read in a week or so). I admit to being very startled that there were no explicit sexual scenes between *any* of the characters. Haven’t seen one of your stories without those for quite some time. Refreshing, but startling nonetheless.

Sorry to hear you’re having writing issues for NaNoWriMo. Seems writing issues are going around a bit, one of my other favorite authors is having difficulty getting his mojo to work properly.

Congratulations for working on breaking into print! I’m afraid I won’t be buying physical copies due to lack of viable space (I draw the line at choosing books over foodstuffs in cupboard space allocation), but I hope it goes well for you.

    • Sex didn’t come up. The same happened in ‘The Girl Who Dreamed…’ Just… didn’t happen.
At some point, Mysara’s going to get it on with Alex. I think. To be honest, I’m not totally sure.
I’m writing Tatsu now, so it’s back to the sex scenes.

I would never ask someone to give up food for my work. Paper just isn’t that nutritious.

      • I don’t mind the sexy bits at all, but I also didn’t miss them in Fallen. I think in Girl Who Dreamed… it was more noticeable since there was a bit of a will they/won’t they tension between Kana and Aneshti, intentional or not.

      • They might. Then again, the sequel is due to have beast-people, so Kana might get it on with a bunny-girl, or a cat-girl, or a cat-man, or… Well, we’ll see. 🙂

  9. Hello and more please i love the story and the premesis but i have one thing i would like tho critic: not cool on the acs erasur The ace spectrum is a thing and there are people that sont want to fuck anyone no mater how handsom or pretty or otherewise atractiv they are

    • It took me a little to parse that, sorry. Still not sure about some of it.
I’m aware of asexuality. What we were discussing above wasn’t really related to that. It was more about narrative causality. Kana isn’t uninterested in sex, for example, and is likely to have a romantic relationship in her next outing (whenever that is).
I am working on something which may not involve sex for the protagonist, but I’m not entirely sure that book is going to work (for other reasons) and the character involved is ‘not like other girls’ in a number of ways.
So, I agree with your assertion. Some people aren’t interested. That isn’t a valid critic under the specific circumstances, however.

Now tell me what ‘acs erasur’ means.

      • I took it be a misspelling of ace erasure, ace being shorthand for people who identify as asexual if you are not aware.

      • Sorry my spelling was so bad i sometimes have problems with that. My comment was not a part of the previous discussion and refered to something Alex said in the beginning of the book. Maybe i should have providet more context so here it is on page 19 or Position 291 allex said: (quote) “any man who could lie […] in bed with someone like you and sleep would have to perfer the company of men.” (End quote)
That is ace erasure and maybe i overreacted but the point still stands.

      • Right. This is my opinion, and you can take it as you wish, but here it is.

Don’t confuse reality with fantasy. Don’t impose your modern opinions on a character who belongs in a world with medieval attitudes (at the latest). Don’t confuse the opinions of a character as the opinions of the writer.

Alex (the character) thinks that men should want to have sex with women who look like Mysara. If you hadn’t noticed (you skipped the next bit of the quote), he’s not really comfortable with gay men. He protests a little too much. He’s a straight guy (in most aspects of that term). He likes to think he’s tolerant, and he mostly is, but he’s got his view of the world which he thinks of as normal. He’s just like every other human on Arubel or our Earth in that respect.

So, yes, I think you overreacted. I’m not trying to erase anything. Neither is Alex, for that matter. He just doesn’t know any better. If it’s your belief that every work of fiction should only display current views on morality and such, whatever the setting, then I’m sorry but I’m not going to cater to that viewpoint. I don’t think that’s right, and I do think that highlighting things we wish were different about our own world in fiction is part of what makes fantasy and sci-fi special. I’m not doing that with Alex, so it’s fine if you don’t like him for that, but I think it’s an overreaction.

I hope I’ve explained that in some sort of satisfying manner. As I said, that’s my opinion on the subject, and it applies to a broader range of topics than just the sexuality spectrum. The other biggy is racial bigotry. Given that I’m white and middle class, that one’s a real problem for me.

PS. My typing is terrible at the moment. I put an apology to my proofreader into my last manuscript because of the amount of extra work I was probably putting her to.

  10. To ease back onto a more enjoyable (to me anyway 😉) topic…
Am I the only one that kept thinking of The Chronicles of Riddick every time that Ridoch was mentioned😂? It probably didn’t help when the artwork came out and he has at least a passing resemblance to Vin Diesel.
Thracion, thanks for another enjoyable book! This one was indeed light and fun – a very nice read. I look forward to the continuation of the story as you get back around to it.

  11. I’m just 5 pages in and I’m already laughing out loud! (and consequently making a fool of myself in public) Well done!
