Technically, Korra. I was binge-watching Korra episodes when I had the idea for how to make the Twilight Empress thing work. I’ve been trying to get the basic idea right for about three years.
At the root, however, the only thing which really carries over is the elemental basis. There is some Chinese elemental magic in there, and Chinese/Japanese spirits, but the Avatar universe was more of a trigger than anything else.
the thing that made me think of it as ATLA was this part of the blurb “There are five martial Forms inspired by the elements and humans have learned them, using them to defend themselves, for thousands of years. Ever since the Empire of Iron began using the Metal Form for conquest”
Made me immidiatly think “everything changed when the fire nation attacked”
Valid point. And the current Iron Emperor is a bit like what’shisface the Fire Lord, I guess. But… Another massively OTT performance from Mark Hamill!! Who can resist? Well, I think I mostly did, but we won’t be really meeting Emperor Siyu until the second book.
Bought the book on smashwords but did not start yet. However, the cover picture is great and promising. Especially the face of the girl is far more realistic than your earlier models.
Yeah, well… That girl was created for something which failed, and brought back for something which failed, and I think there was another one which failed. I was determined to use her for something and this is finally it. She was just too good to be lost in failed ideas.
Another enjoyable book, and Im looking forward to reading a few sequels. I suppose it could be concluded in just one more volume, but really that would feel rushed for as much story as there is hinted at.
And in one of those Im not sure why I found this so funny deals, the descriptions of town squares not being squares just set me off for some reason.
Town squares in England never seem to be square. I mean, some of them have four sides, but that’s often as close as it gets.
BTW, you’re right, I could finish this in one book, sort of. But I’m sneakier than that.
Also, if the trilogy is popular, I do have some ideas for additional books set in the same world. We’ll see how things go.
I enjoyed this quite a bit. I’ve read and re-read pretty much everything you’ve published and obviously I like some more than others, but this is going pretty high up on my favorites list. Well done and thanks.
And…shes got more tails. Sorta. I didnt actually catch the 9 tails/9 copies thing until a few days after I read the first Fox book and had a random AHAH moment. Then I felt slow. :))
I love your new world. The oriental flavor is a welcome change from the typical D&D northern european settings we usually see. I look forward to more of this series. Please take a deep bow.
Yes. Around the 7th or 8th of July. Unless something goes wrong, the follow-up to that will be due around the 4th or 5th of July. Not sure what happens after that. It might be a third Ultrahumans book, but we’ll see how I’m doing after writing two in a row.
The blurb gives off some definite ATLA vibes. 🙂

Still not on Amazon 😥 hope it will be by the time I finish work 🙂

Amazon US has it available as of 11:25 Eastern Daylight Time
Links for Amazon posted above.
Damn skippy, that was fun. 🙂
Glad you liked it, but you lot read too fast. 🙂
I can’t speak for anyone else, but yes, I am a notoriously fast reader.
In the meantime I’ll do what I usually do. If nothing else catches my fancy I’ll just re-read Thaumatology or Fox or something.

Oh, and Xian is great, really, but don’t go thinking she can replace Kit in our affections. Kit is the BEST!
Well, Kit is kawaii, so yeah. 🙂
No, she’s paru kawaii

I wouldn’t feel too bad about that. It’s not that obvious. It’s sort of an Easter egg.

Thank you. But… Bad back. Too deep a bow and I won’t be straightening up. 🙂
Ayah is like a mix of avatar Korra and Kioshi. None of the hesitation that Aang had. The world building is awesome.
Finally finished this book and grew to enjoy it. Much more than I was expecting and Ayah is a good heroine.
Thank you.
Is a new Ultrahumans book still going to be the next release?
Yes. Around the 7th or 8th of July. Unless something goes wrong, the follow-up to that will be due around the 4th or 5th of July. Not sure what happens after that. It might be a third Ultrahumans book, but we’ll see how I’m doing after writing two in a row.
Check your dates good sir. I don’t think book six will be out before book five. Thanks for the update!
Oops. Yes, that second date should be in August. Unless I have a time machine in my basement. Which would mean I have to build a basement.
Stiil no Unobtainium book 2 then for the forseeable future. Look forward to the new Ultrahumans books though. Keep up the good works!
Ah, that was enjoyable. Hope to see book 2 in some not too distant future. Although Shil 2 would be nice as well.
