Enter the Guardian

I have so many books with dragons in that I figure this is an appropriate title.

Guardian, the fifth Ultrahumans book, is now available.

PS. There are no dragons in this book. Not even little ones.

  1. Now Amazon UK just needs to get its act together before my lunch break.

  2. The ASIN is now up (B07F9XHQ56) so you might see it “soon.”

  3. Amazon links are up.

  4. To quote Gillian Gilroy – well I’ll be a Herosian’s love child.

Fantastic book. I saw that thing at the very end coming for a long time, but not in the way in the way it happened. The rest of it, other than he obvious good guys winning bit, did not expect that. Wow. Also, that bit with Slapstick was really well done. Thanks.

And yes, I know I read too fast 🙂

  5. Well I’ve got it but still early days into the story so far for me. Good so far.

  6. Given the content of your books, the title of that post is kinda ambiguous … :p

  7. Great book. Great ideas obviously inspired by current reality.

Non-Spoiler: It’s not the POTUS who had an affair with a porn actress…

    Big cliffhanger as always.

    • I’m going to say influenced by current affairs rather than inspired.
The next one is (partially) heavily influenced by not quite current events since it ends just after the 2016 presidential election. The candidates aren’t the same (and Obama is not the outgoing president for that matter), but I couldn’t resist at least one joke about certain aspects of the election campaign. I spent more or less every lunchtime in 2016 watching American late night comedy shows on YouTube. I had to do one joke.

  8. Just finished the Guardian. Best one so far IMHO. Just a thought, if Cygnus can emulate the powers of any Ultra she observes, can she emulate some of Twight’s powers? Not expecting her to be able to control imps and demons but perhaps the teleport thing?

    • IMHO Twi’s powers are partly a genetic family heirloom and partly uniquely acquired. So she’s also no “Ultra” in the sense of accessing cosmic power.

    • Actually, that comes up in the next book. It’s not exactly a spoiler, however, so I’ll make a couple of comments.
Some of Twilight’s powers, Cygnus could definitely copy. Twilight was an Ultra (a mutant) before she was the Avatar of Shadows, so those powers are easy.
Twilight’s ‘Darkness/Shadow’ powers are magic, and that’s a whole other matter. Replicating the general effect (e.g. wrapping oneself in darkness so that you can’t be seen) would be quite possible, but it wouldn’t be quite the same. Cygnus could teleport, obviously, but not in quite the same way that Twilight does.
Basically, Cygnus has trouble with psionics because it’s hard to grasp what she needs to do. She has trouble with magic for the same reason.
