The Long Road She Took

Obscure title for a post… check!ayah-12

Character art… check!

Okay, this is Ayah. Or it’s one of her incarnations. If you click on the image it should take you to an ArtStation post which contains her rather elaborate history. I created her for one project and then liked the model so much that I had to find a story for her. It’s taken me at least three tries, but I think I’ve finally cracked it and you should see the results in May.

Initially she’s getting a trilogy which, incidentally, I’ve been trying to write in one form or another for several years. It was going to be sci-fi and it’s now become fantasy and, amazingly, I think it works better that way.

So, assuming I don’t freeze to death in the current ‘spring’ weather, you’ll get to find out what’s up with Ayah sometime fairly soon.

  1. oh another new book and character , this is a sweet image

  2. Awesome character. I’d really like to read a story (or some more) where she wears all those outfits. 😉

    • Well, if the first trilogy works out well, I have some ideas which will eventually put her in more modern clothes. Probably not the real sci-fi stuff, but definitely the more modern outfits.

  3. Cecil Montague's avatar Cecil Montague

Sci-fi and Fantasy can often share a lot of elements I find. They can both serve well as allegories for our time and then there is what a wise man once said about sufficiently advanced technology.

  4. I have enjoyed everything you’ve published, but the Thaumatology series is easily my favorite – so I eagerly anticipate a new fantasy series.
    (nice artwork, too!)

  5. Nice outfit. Haven’t looked at the link yet but I’m interested in the character already and her stories.

  6. Your best image yet. The figure and scenery blend in a realistic manner. Oh and thanks for not giving her boot high heels.

    • I was rather pleased to find a costume without high heels that worked for what I wanted. Not an easy thing to find.
In the setting, her outfit is a little archaic. It’s typical clothing for her home region from about 600 years early than the story is set. (Which doesn’t mean warriors in high-heels abound.) There’s an in story reason for the archaic outfit.
The scenery is from one of my favourite content creators, Stonemason. He produces really beautiful stuff. I don’t buy everything he comes out with, but I generally have to force myself to realise I’ll never use something to hold back.
